2. Interpretation
In this Act —
“ammunition” has the meaning assigned under section 2 of the Firearms Act;
“escalated crime” means an action or omission that constitutes an offence and is punishable by law that —
-
(a) causes substantial deaths, widespread fear and panic and interrupts business activity in a particular area;
-
(b) constitutes a serious offence in a particular area; and
-
(c) disrupts the peace, protection of life and property of individuals;
“escalated crime area” mean an area designated under section 5;
“firearm” has the meaning assigned under section 2 of the Firearms Act;
“Force” has the meaning assigned under the Police Act;
“Minister” means the Minister responsible for national security;
“police officer” has the meaning assigned under the Police Act;
“serious offence” means —

(a) an offence under the Anti-Gang Act;

(b) an offence under the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act;

(c) an offence under the Firearms Act;

(d) an offence against the person under Chapter 2 of the Criminal Code;

(e) an offence under the Public Order Act;
“vehicle” includes any description of carriage or other artificial contrivance used, or capable of being used, as transportation on land, sea or air.
